Thank you from Garth Newel!
Greetings to all of you,
November 15, 2014 is National Philanthropy Day. I wanted to thank you for all that you do for Garth Newel. Philanthropy at its heart is about love for humanity. Love expresses itself through service: service to the Garth Newel community, to its mission to champion chamber music, and to the beautiful campus and surroundings in which we find ourselves. On this day, I want to personally thank you for the love you bestow through your service.
Service at Garth Newel comes in many forms. As a ticket buyer you do the absolute most important thing which is to contribute your time and presence to actively participate in our live concerts. Without you, our audience, all we do is for naught. We love having you here! We love when you tell our story to your friends and invite them to come and experience an evening or afternoon here. We love visiting with you, sharing our lives, creating deeper relationships and sharing fellowship. Your presence uplifts us all!
Service also comes in the form of generous financial support. Your generosity has been the foundation of Garth Newel for over 40 years. When I stroll the grounds of the campus I love seeing the growth and changes: the Portico, the Green Room, the renovations to the manor house, the newly paved road. I also love seeing Scott or Michael on the tractor which has made their jobs much more manageable. But these are just the visible evidence of your support. Through your donations you keep our lights on, our bills paid, our musicians, chef and staff paid and help us make ends meet. That Garth Newel exists is a testament to your love and belief in our organization. I look through our lists of donors and see each of your names, I note our business partners, our grantors and the Friends Groups who sponsor concerts and scholarships for the Young Artist Fellowship Program. I see those of you who know that education is vital to the success of any program and who give generously to the Allegheny Mountain String Project and to the Adult Amateur Chamber Music Retreat and to our many outreach concerts and programs. Truly, your generous giving spirit elevates us all.
But service also comes in the form of the labors and talents you selflessly give to Garth Newel. As I have met and talked with many of you I have listened to your stories and know that our volunteers are our life-blood. Whether it is one of our talented board members providing consultation and donating their professional expertise, or friends of Garth Newel like the crew overseeing the manor house kitchen renovation project, our decorators festooning Herter Hall in evergreens and joy for the holidays, or all of those of you who lovingly tend to the planters and fill them with beautiful flowers, or our elegant hostesses who created the charming English Tea reception, or going back even further in our history, all of you who baked cookies for the Sunday Cookie Socials, or the wonderful members of the Warm Springs Valley Garden Club who make sure we have beautiful centerpieces and floral displays, or the volunteer brigade who continue to make all of our Fund Raising Events a huge success-who cut and glue and decorate, and beat the bushes for donations and sponsorships, or individuals who stop by to visit and uplift us and share history and nurture the new guy on the block, or to those of you who have been here from the beginning, who through their many years of volunteering have become woven into our history and are part of our connection to the past, and to the countless others of you who give your time, energy and sweat to this organization you love. These are just a few examples off the top of my head. Since I am new, I know there are countless others of you I still need to meet and come to know and personally thank for your service. So very many names and so very many stories, so much love for our organization and I look forward to hearing them all!
Garth Newel cannot exist without you! You “are” Garth Newel and on today, National Philanthropy Day I would like to say once again, thank YOU for all you do.
